Horton's Poem Illustrated

Years bud and blow and perfect grow
On Time's eternal tree,
And one by one, by moon or sun,
Drift off into the sea.

And heroes come, for carnage some
And some for peaceful flight,
While still the world, by God's hand twirled,
Swims on through shade and light.

Year after year new names appear
On Cilo's fumbled page,
And one is writ so plain that it
But brighter grows with age.

Oh Washington! Sweet Freedom son!
Come joy or darkest strife,
Each brave heart burns whene'er returns
The day that gave thee life.
